Abdominoplasty
& UAL

Abdominoplasty, or "tummy tuck", is a major surgical procedure to
remove excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen, and to
tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall. This procedure can
dramatically reduce the appearance of a protruding abdomen, but it
does produce a permanent scar. The scars are hidden within the French
bathing suite line. A conservative thigh lift is achieved with this
technique, enhancing body image. Abdominoplasty can be combined
with ultrasonic liposuction, both front and back, to sculpt the body
aesthetically, and give better results.

UAL liposculpturing

Liposuction is a surgical procedure to remove deposits of excess fat
from specific areas of the body, face and neck. Ultrasound-assisted
liposuction uses sound waves to liquefy unwanted fat. Small incisions
are made and a canula is used to aspirate the fat to the suction pump.
Tumescent technique is used to minimize the bruising and bleeding
during the surgical procedure. UAL can be an effective tool for removing
fat from fibrous body areas, such as the male breasts or the back. It can
also be used on the hips, trunk, thighs, knees and a double chin. Dr. Rai
uses this technology to sculpt and tighten tissue to its best capacity.
The ultrasonic liposculpturing technique is used to contour the body
shape aesthetically.

Breast Surgery

In addtion to the breast surgeries outlined below, Dr. Rai also performs
surgery to correct inverted nipples.  Please view photos here.

Breast augmentation is a cosmetic procedure that uses implants to
enlarge and shape the breasts. It can be done through an incision either
underneath the nipple, underneath the breast, or through the armpit with
or without an endoscope. The implant is placed either behind the muscle
or in front of the muscle. The technique is decided after consultation with
the patient. Over the years, gravity takes its toll on a woman's breasts.
As the skin loses its elasticity, the breasts often lose their shape and
firmness and begin to sag. Breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical
procedure to raise and reshape sagging breasts. Mastopexy with
implants tends to give longer lasting results.

About 20 years ago, most of the breast augmentations were done with
gel implants. Many patients had very good results, but when
explantation (removal) was needed because of leakage, capsulectomy
or other problems, removal of implants was a difficult procedure.

In the last 10 years, saline-filled implants have taken a big step, and
over 90% of the patients prefer having saline implants because of the
ease of removal of the implants and the capsular structures around the
implant.

In very thin individuals and patients who have very little breast tissue, the
saline implants are very palpable and you can almost see and feel the
ripples. Hence, some of these patients are not very pleased with the
outcome of the saline implants. For these patients the low-bleed gel
implants or the cohesive gel implants have been used as replacements
and have given very satisfactory results. The advantage of these implants
is that the palpability is of a lesser degree, although the breast feels
firmer, and secondly the rippling effect is also kept to a minimum. The
disadvantage of these implants is that the scar has to be a lot larger to
introduce the implant into the breast cavity.

Therefore, the choice is offered to the patients today: saline, low-bleed
gel, or cohesive gel implants. The low-bleed gel implants are softer in
consistency and give a very good result, with very little rippling. The
cohesive gel implants feel a lot firmer, and the leakage issue is kept
to a minimum. Even if the cohesive gel implants or the low-bleed gel
implants are leaking, the likelihood of spread into the tissue is kept to a
minimum. The implants are of a better design and a better quality today
than they were many years ago.

The use of cohesive gel implants and low-bleed gel implants has
become more popular, especially in patients who have very thin breasts
and who are very thin individuals, where the palpability and visualization
of ripples within the saline implants is a concern. In the last few years,
there has been an increase in the use of cohesive gel and low-bleed gel
implants because of this issue.

Calf Implants (Calf Augmentation)

Many people are dissatisfied with the shape/size of their calf muscles to
the point that they avoid wearing garments that expose their legs. In these
instances, even intensive exercise may not significantly enlarge the calf
muscles, particularly in relation to one’s larger thigh muscles. Calf
augmentation can improve the appearance of the calf.

Pec Implants

Male chest enhancement otherwise known as “pec” implants are now more
popular than ever. Increasing numbers of men are choosing to enhance
their physiques, body symmetry and self image with pectoral implants.
This procedure can be performed to enhance an already shapely physique
