Plastic Surgery - Body Contouring
There are many reasons why someone would consider abdominoplasty, more commonly referred to as a tummy tuck. Some have experienced substantial weight loss or multiple pregnancies that have stretched their skin and muscles to a point where they cannot return to their original form. Others may have a healthy diet and consistent exercise regime, yet still experience a protruding abdomen and loose skin. Whatever the reason, a tummy tuck can drastically reduce the appearance of a protruding abdomen, as well as excess fatty accumulation and folds.
Abdominoplasty is a major plastic surgical procedure that is used to remove excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen, as well as to tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall. A secondary benefit of a tummy tuck is a conservative thigh lift, which will further enhance your body image. This procedure does produce a scar, but this scar is hidden within the French bathing suit line.
With abdominoplasty, tummy tuck Vancouver patients can experience a more pleasing figure that includes a flatter and more contoured abdomen. This type of plastic surgery can also be combined with ultrasonic-assisted liposuction (UAL) on the front and back in order to sculpt the body aesthetically and thereby provide better results.
Dr. Rai also uses the power assisted liposuction (PAL) technique for contouring the body smoothly. The PAL technique is considered a more gentle approach because it involves using a suction tube that vibrates to loosen the fat cells. Advantages of this approach include less swelling and bruising, as well as a quicker recovery time. Regular liposuction is also performed in some areas of the face and for body contouring surgery.

UAL liposculpturing, generally known as liposuction, is a surgical procedure that can assist with sculpting your body by removing excess fat deposits from specific areas. Although liposuction should not be used as a substitute for dieting and exercise, it can be used well for removing persistent areas of fat that are not responding to traditional weight-loss programs. Some of the areas of the body that can benefit from liposuction include the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, chin and neck.
New surgery techniques have been introduced to help plastic surgeons achieve more precise results with faster recovery times. These include surgery techniques such as ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty (UAL), the tumescent technique and power-assisted liposuction (PAL), all three of which are successfully used by Dr. Rai.
UAL uses sound waves to rupture the fat cells and liquefy the unwanted fat for easier removal. Small incisions are then made and a small tube called a canula is inserted and connected to a suction pump that aspirates the fat and fluid from the targeted area. This technique can also be an effective tool for removing fat from fibrous body areas, such as the male breasts and back.
The tumescent surgery technique is used to minimize bruising and bleeding during the surgical procedure, with secondary benefits that include reduced pain and swelling after surgery. With this surgery technique, an anaesthesia solution is injected into the areas targeted for fat sculpting.
Liposuction New Westminster patients will benefit greatly from these enhanced plastic surgery techniques used by Dr. Rai, and in many cases UAL liposculpturing can work very well with abdominoplasty surgery (tummy tuck) when the affected area is the abdomen. PAL and SAL may also be used for contouring lesser fatty areas.

As skin loses its elasticity over the years, gravity can take its toll on a woman’s breasts. Breasts often lose their shape and firmness and thus begin to sag. Breast augmentation surgery is a cosmetic procedure that uses implants to enlarge and shape the breasts. Although most breast augmentations were done using gel implants about 20 years ago, saline-filled implants were introduced over the last 10 years and now over 90 percent of patients prefer saline breast implants.
One of the primary differences between gel and saline implants is related to their removal. Removing gel implants, due to leakage, capsulectomy or other problems, can be a very difficult procedure as compared to the relatively easy removal of saline breast implants and the capsular structures around the implant.
Procedural improvements and expanded implant options give breast surgery patients the choice between saline breast implants, low-bleed gel implants and cohesive gel implants. Low-bleed gel breast implants offer a softer consistency that provides a very good result, while cohesive gel breast implants are firmer with a low risk of leakage. The enhanced design and quality of low-bleed and cohesive gel breast implants mean even if leaking occurs, the likelihood of the leak spreading into surrounding tissue is kept to a minimum.
It should be noted that breast augmentation surgery patients who are thin and/or have very little breast tissue will often opt for low-bleed gel implants or cohesive gel breast implants. This is because the shape and ripples of the saline breast implants can often been seen (palpable) and felt. Gel breast implants offer less palpability, although the breast feels firmer, and the rippling effect is kept to a minimum. The drawback to gel breast implants is that the scar has to be considerably larger to introduce the implant into the breast cavity.
Dr. Rai has helped many breast surgery patients achieve the results they desire. This includes those patients who also undergo a mastopexy (or breastlift) in order to raise and reshape sagging breasts. In fact, breastlift surgery patients who also get implants tend to experience a longer lasting result. A breast surgery consultation with Dr. Rai prior to surgery will determine which type of implant is best suited for you.
Dr. Rai also performs surgery to correct inverted nipples, examples of which can be viewed by following this link: Inverted nipple correction photos. He also specializes in facelift surgery, liposuction, tummy tuck, rhinoplasty and other cosmetic surgery procedures.
